Librarian, Instructional Designer, everything in between.

About Me

Hi! My name is Allison Rand and I am an IT Help Desker turned Librarian turned Instructional Designer. After graduating from Emerson College in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Writing, Literature, and Publishing, I pursued a Master’s of Library and Information Science from the iSchool at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I graduated with my MSLIS in 2018 and have spent the past four years working in academic libraries. My experiences in academic libraries are broad, and I have developed many skills transferrable to corporate Instructional Design settings.

Skills and Experiences

Instructional Design
Instructional design and e-learning have been my focus for the past several years. I have developed online courses and tutorials for undergraduates, graduate students, as well as staff and faculty. I have experience developing training and instructional materials for adult learners online and in-person. I have worked within the ADDIE and SAM instructional design frameworks, and have strong knowledge of learning theory.

Learning Management Systems
Through my experience in higher education, I have worked with many Learning Management Systems (LMS), including Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and Sakai. My experience with a broad range of academic LMS means I have the knowledge and ability to adapt and work within other proprietary LMS.

Pedagogy
Pedagogy and learning theory is my jam! My experience in library instruction, classroom instruction, and faculty development has grown my interest in learning theory. My strength in this area means that all courses and trainings I develop have clear, measurable learning outcomes.

Audiovisual Production
Fun fact: I originally entered college as a Film Production major! I have formal training in several audiovisual and video production softwares including Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier, and Adobe Photoshop. I have also used Adobe Rush and Camtasia to create educational training videos.
